Curtiss-Wright Controls Awarded Two Contracts From Cassidian Air Systems

Date: Tuesday 26th October 2010

For Digital Video Recorders and Data Recorders on Tornado Aircraft

CHARLOTTE, NC - OCTOBER 26, 2010 - Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc. today announced that it has received contracts with a total potential value in excess of $4.9 million Cassidian Air Systems to provide Digital Video and Data Recorders (DVDR), and associated replay facilities, for a fleet-wide upgrade to Panavia Aircraft GmbH's German and Italian Tornado aircraft. Cassidian Air Systems, Panavia's prime contractor, awarded two contracts, the first for German Tornado aircraft and the second for the Italian Tornado fleet, to Curtiss-Wright's Specialist Electronics Services (SES) Ltd. business unit.

Cassidian Air Systems selected Curtiss-Wright's DVDR solution for its demonstrated ability to record six (6) channels of high quality, high bandwidth video data, as well as numerous additional data and voice channels.

"We are very proud that Curtiss-Wright's digital video and data recorder technology will be used to upgrade both the German and Italian Tornado aircraft fleets," said David Adams, co-chief operating officer of Curtiss-Wright Corporation.

The contracts will commence in the first quarter of 2011, with deliveries direct to the air forces in Germany and Italy continuing for the following two years.

The Tornado combat aircraft is Europe's largest military aircraft co-operation program. It is managed through a consortium led by Panavia Aircraft GmbH as the Tornado management company and with Alenia Aeronautica, BAE Systems and Cassidian Air Systems as Panavia Partner Companies.

Curtiss-Wright's DVDR provides high quality video recording. It enables aircraft data to be downloaded via a removable 48 gigabyte solid state memory cartridge for replay and de-briefing, by using the company's REVEAL high performance visualization and analysis software tool. The DVDR for Tornado is a customized version of a Curtiss-Wright COTS product and is complimented by its partner ground replay software, REVEAL, which supports simultaneous replay of all recorded data and six (6) channels of synchronized video on a standard desktop or laptop PC. Curtiss-Wright designs and manufactures the DVDR, memory cartridges and the REVEAL software products at its Specialist Electronics Services facility in Camberley, UK.
